As the date of publication of the next edition of Guinness World Records draws nearer more information about it’s content is revealed. When it comes music country-turned-pop sensation Taylor Swift and British X-Factor boy-band One Direction are among the world record breakers this year.
Country bumpkin Taylor Swift has managed to get her name printed in the widely-popular record book this year not only once — but twice! The 23-year-old artist received the record for fastest selling digital single when the first single of her new CD, We Are Never Getting Back Together, sold like hot cakes. She was also recognised as being the first solo female artist with two million selling weeks on the US album chart.
Calvin Harris has broken the King Of Pop’s record of having seven top ten hits from one album. Nine singles off 18 Months, Harris’ newest album, have been highly successful and made their way up into the top ten of charts all around the world.
Also Scottish artist Emeli Sande’s debut album Our Version Of Events took the place of The Beatles’ Please Please Me as the debut album figuring on the charts most consecutive weeks. Our Version Of Events figured in the album charts for 63 consecutive weeks.
The Korean-pop sensation Psy has also earned a spot amongst the world-record-breaking artists of the year. His record involves his music videos being the most viewed in 24 hours. Gangnam Style was his first mega-hit and his second single Gentleman‘s video received 38,409,306 views in it’s first 24 hours of being on the internet.
Of course, One Direction made it into the Guinness World Records 2014 book as they turned into the most successful debut by a British group in the US Charts, when their single Live While We’re Young reached number three in the charts last year.
