Guardians of the Galaxy is the latest installment of the Marvel universe. The film grossed over $161 million dollars the first weekend of its release worldwide making it the most succesful August film debut ever and the third best-launch of the year in the film industry. Guardians of the Galaxy becomes once again another victory for Marvel Studios, who have already announced that a sequel will follow in summer 2017.
In 2009 work on the screenplay began, but it wasn’t until the San Diego Comin-Con 2012 that Marvel Studios announced that the project had become a reality and production of the film commenced in July 2013.
Chris Pratt plays Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, a human abducted by a group of galaxy thiefs. Zoe Saldana plays Gamora, adoptive daughter of the evil Thanos, who joins the crew of criminals to stop her father and his evil minions. The cast also includes Bradley Cooper as the talking raccoon Rocket and Vin Diesel as tree-man Groot.
Director James Gunn has brought to life one of the most unlikely of alliances in this space adventure. A duo of bounty hunters, a thief, a prisoner and the daughter of the most feared man in the galaxy come together despite their differences to stop a powerful and destructive orb from falling into the hands of a creature that wants to destroy and take over space.
I had heard great things about this film before I had even been to see it and I have to say I was not disappointed. The special effects are incredible and are very-entertainly accompanied through out the film by the clever and whitty personalities of the main characters. The soundtrack was also phenomenal and well integrated into the film turning it into a part-comedy. The only aspect that worked against us during the viewing of the film was a cinema room filled with noisy popcorn munchers and whining children.
All in all, I think Guardians of the Galaxy is a very complete and well-rounded film and a great experience for Marvel enthusiasts as myself all over the world. In my opinion, if you haven’t watched it yet you should. 5 star review.
